From Jonathon Walker - As a Reader in the Church of England, I have written a NEW course on prayer called Prayer Eleven for Seekers. The course is aimed at teaching individuals (or perhaps small groups) about prayer, and they can download the course for free from my web site www.prayereleven.org . If you think your congregation or others might be interested in this please could you put a notice in your church notice sheet (see web site) or forward this email to them. Music Group
We are very aware that many churches struggle to find an organist, keyboard player to lead worship and so Martin Barrett, the Music Co-ordinator at St Martins, Sherwood and their music group, would be willing to come to any churches in the 2 Deaneries either to help a church/worship group to learn some of the newer songs which are around at the moment or to lead a worship evening. This would be on a one-off basis but we feel that this is something where we would like to share our resources across the Deaneries. If interested please contact Martin Barrett on 9137092 or martin.barrett@ntlworld.com

£432,000 to Combat Suicide

Rural Community Action Nottinghamshire is to share an award of £432,000 from the Big Lottery as part of a regional consortium bid to help combat suicide in the East Midlands. Based on a successful pilot scheme in Leicestershire, RCAN will be co-ordinating suicide awareness training seminars in Nottinghamshire and aims to be a focus for suicide in the region.
Over 4,000 people die as a result of suicide every year, more than the number killed in road accidents, and many hundreds of thousands are the victims of self harm.  Suicide remains the biggest cause of death in fit, under 35 year old males. The project will:   help raise awareness of suicide, through the medium of suicide awareness seminars, which aim to dispel myths and taboos and give positive support to those who, as part of their work and every day life come into contact with vulnerable people who may be at risk of taking their own lives.
Members of the general public will be encouraged to attend the seminars to ensure that awareness of suicide is raised across the whole of Nottinghamshire communities.

Rob Crowder, Chief Executive of RCAN, says “I am glad to see the problem of suicide being given the recognition and resources needed in order for us to deliver positive action. It is an issue which affects society as a whole. This funding will now allow us the opportunity to involve staff from key agencies, employers, and most importantly the general public in Nottinghamshire in helping them not only to have a greater understanding of the problem but also to see how we can all work together to address the tragedy of suicide”.
